This lovely straw bale home was built in the mountains north of Taos, NM. in the little community of El Rito. The design came from the clients brother-in-law, an architect from California. We had good collaboration with our client and with her creative input, the well thought out plans and our experience we were able to create a home she is very happy with.
The site is on the western slope of the foothills, has a lovely little year round creek and expansive views to the west where the high mesa is dotted with domes and spires.
With a strong passive solar design, thick straw bale walls and natural cellulose insulation in the ceiling this house keeps the winter at bay and is comfortable and airy in the summer.
