Deck in the Trees

2019

We were called in to look at an odd patch of steeply sloped land that made up the side yard on this beautiful Straw Bale home in the treed mountains just north of Taos. We talked with the owners about their goals for the space and came up with this deck design. The underside looks like a railroad trestle bridge which is all needed because at the highest point of the deck, about 12 feet in the air they wanted a large hot tub, which filled with splashing people will add a significant live load to the project! We chose Redwood for its weathering characteristics and beauty, a stainless-steel cable rail for its light visual effect and some low voltage down lights on the posts for their ambiance. All of this resulted in a beautiful outdoor living space nestled into the canopy of the Junipers and Spruce.
