Carson Forest Home

This 1850 square foot home is built in Carson, NM. which is about 25 miles west of Taos across the Rio Grande Gorge.  It sits tucked in among the rolling Pinon Pine covered hills.  The sandy soil and sparse groundcover gives one the feeling of being on a vast shoreline.  The house is built from Straw Bales and has an interior Great Room with a high cathedral ceiling and large windows facing east towards the distant high mountains near Taos.  A screened porch off the kitchen offers a nice place for coffee or tea in the morning.  The kitchen has custom-built Alder cabinetry with hand made copper panels on the backside of the island.  A ceramic tile counter on the island with Maple butcher block on the rest completes the kitchen.  There is a small Kiva fireplace in the Master Bedroom along with a bumped out daybed for reading.  Saltillo tile floors throughout are heated with a radiant floor system.  Ground water here is very deep so we chose to utilize rainwater roof catchment stored in underground cisterns for all water needs.
